New Website?

July 10, 2009

I know you all have been wondering…where did Solitary Refinement go?

Kungur? (Russia) hi Есфирь

Sorsele? (Sweden) hi Sofia (ummm…wow!)

Boston? (USA) hi Tom

The rumors are true. We are moving!!

I am sorry this is taking so long, but it is a big change. Our new home will be

Safe and sound in good old Savannah GA! (hi ya’ll)

Go ahead and bookmark now!

Please give me some time to make this transition. It is really big for me! Somethings that I think you will like about this are…

  • The Blog will still be there!
  • A recipe search engine (more than one search engine will be available)
  • Product review (stuff I have tried)
  • Your opinion on products (voting)
  • How to (that bow tie is a b*tch)
  • Guest authors (I have had a big demand for this! I think you will like it. Some experts willing to help the cause. )

BUT the biggest thing is, what would you like to see? This is a website/blog about being a single guy and being refined. Is it just a simple dish that you can cook that lasts you all week, or is it how to tie that bow tie to impress your date for a night on the town? I have been both, hamburger helper one night then escorting a fine lady to the opera the next. I really want this new site to be about you, the single yet refined man.

Please send any recommendations to

Recipe Puppy

April 29, 2009

This is the ultimate recipe search engine! It is called Recipe Puppy. Sometimes I am looking for a recipe based on what ingredients I have on hand. All you do is type them in and the search engine finds them on a bunch of different recipe sites. You can also search by keywords. I think I will use this a lot! Thanks Mrs. P for finding this.

Ziploc Air Removal Pump

January 1, 2009

I have been looking around to find a vacuum sealer to help freeze left over foods. I was at Kroger and came across a little hand pump that pulls the air out of special Ziploc bags. It was only $3.99 so I decided to give it a try. It is kinda a neat system. There is a special valve on the Ziploc bags that allows air to be pulled out but does not let it back in. The bags themselves are $2.99 and come in a couple different sizes. Here are the three items that I purchased…

The top one is the pump and the bottom two are the extra bags. One problem I see with this system so far is that you can not do liquid type foods like soups. The liquid would just be pulled out of the bag with the air. One thing I really like is that you can put the bags in the microwave to heat the food back up again. Here is a better photo of what the bags and pump look like…

The first food I tried to seal was a couple of large meatballs. I even added a lot of juice in the bag. It seems to have pulled out all of the air. Here is what it looked like after using the pump…

For such a low price I think this will help reduce freezer burn. I guess only time will tell. Has anyone else used this or similar products?

Happy Thanksgiving

November 27, 2008

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! It also just happens to be the one year anniversary of Solitary Refinement! That’s right, one year ago today I flipped the switch and started this blog up. Thank you so much to everyone out there that has supported me and given me great ideas. I really look forward to another year coming up. This next year is going to see some big changes with the blog, so stay tuned. Now go have some left over turkey!

I am Back!

August 13, 2008

Hello everyone! I am so sorry for not posting in such a long time. I am finally back in Savannah full time and getting into my normal routine. About two months ago I accepted a job with a company under the agreement that I would travel to Miami Florida Monday through Friday. All that time in planes and hotels really got me down. We were finally able to open the Savannah office last week. I am home again! NO MORE MIAMI! So now that I am back I can start posting again. I will try to start getting some new posts up starting in the next couple days. Great to be back!!!!!

Greetings from Miami

June 18, 2008

Hello from Miami Florida! Sorry I have not posted in a long time, but I have a new job. It requires me to travel to Miami Monday through Friday. So far it has been great. One thing I am getting used to is hotel living. My days have been very busy, so I don’t have much time to explore Miami. All my free time is spent in the hotel. Does anyone have some ideas about how to make hotel living easier? I normally don’t like living out of a suitcase, but that is what I will be doing for the next couple months. Things maybe a little slow on Solitary Refinement until I get back to my normal Savannah life. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks!!

Steam Buddy

May 30, 2008

The Steam Buddy has just arrived! Mr. and Mrs. T bought a Steam Buddy for my birthday. I can’t wait to give it a try. It is another product from the “as Seen on TV” people. I only had the time to take it out of the box. I hope it works! I should have a review up in a couple days.

NOTE: I have stopped using the Steam Buddy and have gone back to a regular iron. I was not getting the results I was looking for. 1/28/09

In the wake of yet another large recall, I am sitting here wondering what is going on. It seems that every week there is a recall. I remember when food recalls were few and far between. What worries me the most is that some of these recalls are with raw meats and poultry. I guess I always thought that I was involved in recalls because I bought really cheap food. I guess I was wrong. Luckily I was not involved with this recall. What do you have to say about the increase in recalls?
